Crossovers and connections

Some people say that Andy Warhol stole ideas from everyone around him and never made anything original.  It's true, he was surrounded by a community of creative, brilliant people who gave him ideas and he used those ideas, but I don’t consider that stealing.  Rather, I think he just did what we all do; he looked around, got inspired by his world and then made something unique from it.

We do this all the time.  I think that who we are and what we create is somehow a reflection of the people we know and things we  have seen.  We inspire each other and it is fascinating to become aware of these connections and crossovers.
Yesterday, my friend, Deborah Soffel posted on her blog, Grapes and Greens, that thoughts of my artwork inspired her  as she took photographs on a  recent walk through the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.  Deborah is a chef who has a very informative and elegant blog about vegetarian cuisine.  It was interesting to follow her thought process, which took her from taking a walk in the woods, to reflecting on my artwork, to Moroccan spices and finally to related recipes. I was very moved to see how my images had stayed with her and inspired her vision that day. Visit Deborah at  http://grapesandgreens.blogspot.com/
The other exciting sharing of ideas is with my friend Yvonne Garrett who is a writer.  About 2 months ago we decided that we would each do a project a day in our chosen medium and then share what we made at the end of the month. After the first month, we decided to switch to a blog format and post daily. This has been a very interesting and indirect form of influence for me.  We don’t respond directly to each other, but it curious to see the abstract relationship between our works.  Visit our ongoing open studio at  Project A Day.       http://micheleyvonne.blogspot.com/
